The role of HR at the Institute is to proactively partner with the science to encourage a culture of HR best practice in order to foster an environment conducive to world class research.

The Institute HR Managers are Emma Walters and Monique Hodges who can offer support and guidance with all people-related matters including:
– Recruitment
– Getting Started
– Personal development
– Pay, grading and benefits
– Resolving problems at work

Rebecca provides an administration service to the HR Managers, and is responsible for: – Providing advice to staff with regards to applying for Research Passports
– Logging sickness absence
– Providing holiday calculations for staff
– Providing correspondence for staff such as employee references and visa letters – First point of contact for HR administration procedural advice

Getting Started

It’s important to get new employees off to a great start. Our ‘Getting Started’ approach is designed to ensure that in your first few months we provide you with the development and support you need in your new role. In return, we ask you to take the initiative to arrange a meeting with your line manager to discuss how the Getting Started approach can be tailored to your needs.

Performance Development Reviews/Staff Review and Development Scheme

The Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute has ambitious scientific aims. To accomplish these we must ensure that everyone understands how their role, day-to-day performance and eagerness to learn contribute to achieving these. The Performance Development Review process and Staff Review and Development Scheme are a way of formalising these discussions of progress between employees and their line manager. This process is driven by employees and varies according to date of hire.
