International Women’s Day screening of Picture a Scientist
International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This year, we have teamed up with the Cambridge Biomedical Campus to screen the film ‘Picture a Scientist’, followed by a panel discussion and lunch.
‘Picture a Scientist‘ chronicles the groundswell of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists. Biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks, and geologist Jane Willenbring lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, ranging from brutal harassment to years of subtle slights. Along the way, from cramped laboratories to spectacular field stations, we encounter scientific luminaries – including social scientists, neuroscientists, and psychologists – who provide new perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable, and open to all.
The 55-minute film will start at 11 am, followed by a panel discussion with members of the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute to explore the themes within the film. Our panelists include:

Funded by the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, the screening is open to scientists across the Campus and Cambridge, with a light lunch provided after the showing for further discussion.
