Core-Funded Group Leader Positions: Recruiting Now

Are you ready to join our community of exceptional researchers?
We are searching for two new Junior Group Leaders to join our Institute to helm a world-leading independent research programme that contributes to, and complements, the overarching mission and expertise of our faculty.
The primary role of a group leader at Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute is to develop and lead a translational research team focused on:
a) understanding an area of cancer biology and/or
b) the development of new therapies for these devastating diseases.
We invite applicants to apply for one of two available posts; one is open to someone pursuing any area of cancer discovery research, the other is for a computational biologist.
Careers at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute
Our Institute is one of four Institutes core-funded by Cancer Research UK (CRUK).
This means that CRUK provides a block grant each year that enables us not only to provide direct, flexible support to each of our group leaders, but also to maintain world-class research support facilities.
Unlike traditional start-up packages, core funding is provided to every group leader as long as they hold their position in the Institute. This post carries a significant package of support for 5 years in the first instance, including:
- 2 postdocs and a technician
- 2 PhD students
- Budget to use the technology and expertise in our 11 state-of-the-art Core Facilities
- A Research Administrator to help your group with administrative tasks
- A professionalised Operations Team to support your group with everything from grant writing and finance to media liaison; all designed to keep you at your lab bench
A place like no other
Situated on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute is at the heart of Europe’s leading life sciences cluster. Opportunities to translate your research are abundant and the possibility of collaborating with industry to spin-out an idea is encouraged.
The Campus is a powerhouse for biomedical research, patient care and education. It is home to Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH), which encompasses the teaching hospitals of the University of Cambridge, and the University’s School of Clinical Medicine; 12 academic departments, 4 research institutes – including our own – and 5 Medical Research Council units associated with the School are located on site.
Global industry leaders in healthcare research and innovation now sit alongside this academic excellence; AstraZeneca, Abcam and GlaxoSmithKline all have major premises on the Campus.
Excitingly, the forthcoming Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital intends to leverage this rich network to deliver direct patient benefit.
Apply by 26 November 2023
Applications for both Junior Group Leader positions are open until 26 November 2023.
