CRUK CI PhD students, 2020 cohort

The Institute has over 90 PhD students, each contributing to the vibrant and collaborative environment at the Cambridge Institute.

GradSoc

All postgraduate students at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute are a part of GradSoc – the Institute’s own postgraduate society, run by the students for students!

GradSoc organises a range of social events for postgraduate students throughout the year, aiming to provide a warm and friendly atmosphere to support students during their time at the Institute.

The team also organises journal clubs and ‘meet the speaker’ sessions, helping students develop their presentation, communication and critical reviewing skills and giving them the chance to network with seminar speakers in a relaxed environment.

I have loved being an active member of GradSoc, including a stint as the chair of the committee. GradSoc assists in providing a social and academic ‘glue’ to bond the entire student cohort, with a bevvy of generously funded academic and social opportunities.

The Postgraduate Study

The Postgraduate Study was conceived of as a quiet space for students to study and write in a bright and open environment. The room has both bookable workstations and additional seating for students to use on a drop-in basis. Only Institute Master’s and PhD student IDs activate the card lock, so the space is truly just for their benefit.
