Our Core Facilities are home to around 100 scientists and technical specialists, all dedicated to supporting and advancing cancer research.
Roles in these teams are often permanent, ensuring a sustained level of expertise and knowledge that is essential for maintaining our cutting-edge capabilities.
Members of our Core Facilities come from a range of backgrounds, from entry level to senior academic staff, contributing to a rich and diverse working environment.

State-of-the-art facilities
Our Core Facilities are among the most unique features of our Institute and are home to huge variety of high-value scientific equipment and capabilities. From the latest spatial technologies to a variety of cutting edge single-cell sequencing platforms these centres of technological expertise work in partnership with our research groups to further the cancer research field and improve outcomes for patients.

Innovation and development
We encourage early adoption, technological development, and innovation in our facilities. Our track record includes new software and computational tools for the community, new proteomics methodologies, and patents. Core Facility Managers are all encouraged to deliver continual improvements and horizon scanning to ensure that our research benefits from the latest technological advancements.

Technician commitment
As a department of the University of Cambridge we are a signatory of the Technician Commitment. This initiative aims to ensure visibility, recognition, career development, and sustainability for technicians working in higher education and research. We actively promote opportunities provided by the UK’s Institute of Technical Skills and Strategy.

Community
Core Facilities staff frequently attend and host conferences, seminars, and workshops to discuss techniques and technologies at the cutting edge of their field. We have established relationships with peers across CRUK’s Manchester and Scotland Institutes and the Francis Crick Institute to share advancements and best practice. Our facility members are recognised as leaders in their field, invited as speakers, peer reviewers, and collaborators on key commercial partnerships.
