Applications are invited for a full-time position in the Caldas Laboratory at the CRUK Cambridge Institute (CRUK-CI) as a research associate. Led by Prof. Carlos Caldas, the group is involved in world leading clinical and laboratory research into breast cancer, and is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team, including oncologists, pathologists, biologists, computational scientists, statisticians and laboratory staff.

During the last years, the lab has redefined this disease as a constellation of at least 11 genomic driver-based subtypes, with different molecular profiles and patient prognosis. This new molecular taxonomy of breast cancer is being translated into the clinic in stratification, tumour monitoring and therapy studies. In parallel we are developing pre-clinical models to characterize the biology of these subtypes.

We are studying now the effect of intratumoral heterogeneity in each of these subtypes. In particular, we aim to quantify copy number-based and single nucleotide variation-based heterogeneity using a combination of bulk sequencing and single-cell sequencing, both at the genomic and transcriptomic level. We will use clinical samples and patient derived-xenogratfs (PDTX).

We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist with a PhD in Bioinformatics, Statistics or Computational Biology with experience in Next Generation Sequencing data analysis. The successful candidate will work on refining pipelines for analysis of high- throughput data, applying existing algorithms for estimation of intratumoral heterogeneity as well as developing new approaches and models. R/Bioconductor proficiency is required.

Due to the nature of the lab as a multidisciplinary team, a cooperative approach to working is needed for this position, as well as an ability to communicate and interact with colleagues with other backgrounds.
