The Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute (CRUK-CI) is a department of Cambridge University. It has the specific goal to harness the scientific strengths of Cambridge to solve problems encountered with the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of cancer.

You will become part of the Cambridge Institute community, reporting into the Operations Finance Manager with supervision from our Finance Manager. You will play an active role in assisting members of the Institutes staff with their purchases of goods and services.

Working within a wider team of two Senior Finance Administrator, three Finance Assistants and one other Purchasing and Accounts clerk the post holder will play a crucial role in helping the Institute to maximise value for money and minimise risk through the provision of high-level support services.

Key duties include;

  • Providing procurement support and information to the Institute and advice on purchasing matters to members of the Institute
  • Checking and authorising requisitions placed to ensure compliance with the University procurement policies
  • Chasing progress of orders not receipted
  • Review and investigate reason for open purchase orders
  • Distribution/allocation of finance team correspondence
  • Provide adhoc support to the finance assistants.

The successful candidate will be highly organised, have excellent customer service skills and display a positive, professional manner with a keen eye for detail. They will demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and have the ability to deal tactfully and confidently with people at all levels. An effective team player, the successful candidate will also demonstrate the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Knowledge of the University Financial Systems is highly desirable.

Fixed-term: This post is fixed-term for 12 months or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier. This position is covering a member of staff on secondment.
