Mark originally studied Biological Sciences at Leicester University. After lab-work on Plants and Animals, he decided to focus on Microbes and especially Halophiles. He then worked at the Institute of Food Research in Norwich for over 30 years in various roles (Image analysis, IT support, Mathematical modelling and finally in Bioinformatics Training). This period also included gaining a Mathematics & Statistics degree with the Open University. He joined the Cambridge Institute in January 2018 in his current role.
